HATTIESBURG, MS - The Charlotte 49ers baseball team lost game two of their C-USA road series to #23 Southern Miss, 6-2.

With the loss, Charlotte falls to 14-15 overall and 6-7 in Conference USA.

Randall Poplin and Brad Lamm each had two hits for the 49ers.

Southern Miss took their first lead of the series when Jeff Cook scored on a Brad Willcutt single to left field in the first inning.

Charlotte tied the score when Jamie Rusco, who reached base on a double off the center field wall, scored on Brad Lamm's infield single in the fourth inning.

The Golden Eagles regained the lead for good, 4-1, with three runs on three hits in bottom of the fourth inning. Clint King, who reached base on a triple, scored on Griff Israel's double to left center field. Then, Israel scored on Jarrett Hoffpauir's double to left field. Jason Lowery scored the inning's final run on a Beau Griffin sacrifice fly to center field.

Southern Miss plated two more runs in the sixth inning increasing their lead to 6-1.

Charlotte made the final score, 6-2, when Brad Lamm scored on a Southern Miss throwing error in the ninth inning.

The two teams conclude their three-game Conference USA series, Sunday, April 13 at 2 pm.
