Charlotte, N.C. - Brian Bogusevic pitched eight strong innings and struck out nine, as No. 2 Tulane completed a three-game sweep of the Charlotte 49ers with a 8-3 win on Sunday afternoon at Tom & Lib Phillips Field. A season-best crowd of 1,043 was on hand for the game, which was televised throughout the Carolinas on C-SET.
Shortstop Tommy Manzella and first baseman Micah Owings combined for seven hits and five RBI, including Manzella's sixth homer of the season, to lead the way offensively for Tulane (29-5, 10-2 C-USA). Owings tripled to right center in the sixth, and plated what would become the winning run later that inning. Manzella's home run in the first gave the Green Wave a 1-0 lead.
Charlotte (20-12, 5-7 C-USA) couldn't get much offense going against Bogusevic, who did his best to match teammate Owings' performance from Friday night. Bogusevic lasted eight innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits and four walks. He struck out nine. Owings struck out 12 in eight innings on Friday night.
Trailing 7-2, Charlotte would have its best chance at a comeback in the bottom half of the seventh inning. With one out, John Stalllings walked and O'Brien Taylor singled. After a flyout, Kris Rochelle singled to plate Stallings, which brought up Spencer Steedley with two aboard and two out. But Steedley, the team's fifth hitter, struck out to end the inning.
The Niners would put just one runner aboard in the final two innings. They stranded nine baserunners in the game, including two apiece in the first and seventh innings.
The game was broadcast live on Carolinas Sports Entertainment Television, which is available on Time Warner cable throughout the Carolinas. Play-by-play announcer Tom Werme and former major leaguer Scott Pose called the action for the flagship station of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats, which caters to sports fans in North and South Carolina. A replay of the game will be shown at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday night, April 10 (Time Warner Digitial Cable Channel 150).

Tulane staked itself to a 3-1 lead with two in the top of the third. Brad Emaus doubled into center field to drive in a run, and moved to third on a throwing error as the cutoff man was missed. He scored an unearned run on a single to third base.
Tulane scored twice in the top of the sixth to take a 5-1 lead, but the Niners would get one across in the bottom of the frame when shortstop Mike Ambrose launched a solo home run to left center.
The Green Wave got two insurance runs in the top of the seventh after a walk, a triple and a sacrifice fly. Tulane added its final run in the top of the ninth.
The Niners will get a one-game break from C-USA action, as they host the Furman Paladins on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. The team goes on the road to face conference foe Cincinnati next weekend in a three-game set.
