Houston, TX - The Charlotte 49ers baseball team dropped a Conference USA road game at Houston, 11-4.
Kris Rochelle and Adam Floyd paced the 49ers with two hits in the game. Randall Poplin collected his fourth home run of the season for the 49ers.
Houston's Jake Stewart collected three hits and three RBI in the game.
The Cougars jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with three runs in the first inning and a run in the second inning. In the first inning, Patrick Gaylord scored the game's first run on Stuart Musslewhite's double to left field. Then, Kevin Roberts and Musslewhite scored the inning's other runs on Jake Stewart's single to center field. Nick Bott leadoff the second inning with a home run over the left field wall.
Charlotte scratched across their first run when Floyd, who reached base on a single to left field, scored on a Houston fielding error.
Then, Houston exploded for four runs on five hits in the fourth inning making the score, 8-1. The big hit of the inning was a two-run home run by Patrick Breen.
The Cougars plated a run in the fifth inning when Breen scored on Nick Bott's double to left field.
Charlotte's Poplin connected on his fourth home run of the season a two-run shot over the left field wall in the seventh inning. Michael Roane scored the inning's other run on Rochelle's single to left field.
Houston concluded the scoring with a run on one hit in the seventh inning.
With the loss, Charlotte falls to 13-14 on the season and 3-7 in Conference USA.
The two teams will conclude their series with a doubleheader, Saturday, April 10 at 2 pm.
