CHAPEL HILL, NC - The Charlotte 49ers baseball team dropped a 12-5 decision at in-state foe #14 North Carolina, Wednesday night.
Adam Willard paced the 49ers for the second-straight game with three hits and three runs scored. Brian Scafe added two RBI for Charlotte.
Greg Mangum, Chris Iannetta, Sammy Hewitt and Jay Cox each had two hits for the Tar Heels.
Willard, who reached base on a double off the right field wall, scored the game's first run on Jamie Rusco's single to right field in the first inning.
The Tarheels took the lead for good with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning. Mangum scored the first run on Iannetta's sacrifice fly to center field. Then, Hewitt closed out the scoring with a two-run home run over the left field wall.
Michael Roane cut the North Carolina lead in half when he scored on Willard's fielder's choice in the second inning.
North Carolina plated a run in the third inning when Iannetta leadoff the inning with a home run over the center field wall.
The Tarheels took control of the game with six runs on three hits in the fourth inning. The big hits of the inning were a two-run single to right field by Iannetta and a three-run double down the left field line by Cox.
The Tarheels tacked on another run in the sixth inning when Marshall Hubbard scored on Hewitt's triple to center field.
Charlotte plated two runs in the seventh inning when Thomas Bowker and Willard scored on Scafe's single to left field.
Mike Daniel closed out the scoring for North Carolina when he plated their final run on Wes Moyer's sacrifice fly to left field in the eighth inning.
Willard scored the game's final run on Randall Poplin's infield groundout in the ninth inning.
