CHARLOTTE, NC - Charlotte's ninth inning rally fell short as they lost to Southern Miss, 7-5 in 11 innings, in the final game of their three-game Conference USA series.
Charlotte tied the game at 3-3 in dramatic fashion with two outs and two strikes in the ninth inning. Brad Lamm scored the game-tying run on Joey Bradshaw's triple down the right field line.
Southern Miss regained the lead for good with four runs on three hits in the eleventh inning. The game-winning hit came on Brad Willcutt's three-run home run over the left field wall in the inning.
Charlotte added two runs in the eleventh inning to make the final score, 7-5.
Southern Miss reliever Anthony Dewitt recorded his first win of the season. While, Charlotte reliever Jacob Chaney registers his first loss of the season.
Charlotte scored the game's first run when Brad Halvorson scored on an Adam Willard double to left center field in the second inning.
Southern Miss took a 3-1 lead with three runs on three hits in the third inning. The big hit of the inning was two-run single to center field by Griff Israel.
The 49ers scored their second run in the seventh inning when Brad Erwin, who tripled to center field, scored on a Joey Bradshaw infield ground out.
The 49ers return to action at instate rival North Carolina, Tuesday, April 9 at 6 pm.
