CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte 49ers lost to Southern Miss, 10-4, in the second game of their Conference USA series.
With the loss Charlotte falls to 16-14 overall and 6-5 in Conference USA. While Southern Miss improved to 20-11 overall and 8-3 in Conference USA.
Charlotte's Thomas Bowker and Adam Willard each collected two hits in the game.
Southern Miss took an early 1-0 lead when Griff Israel scored on a Clint Stoy double to left field in the second inning.
Charlotte tied the score at 1-1 when Alex Derhak scored on a Southern Miss fielding error in the second inning.
Southern Miss regained a 2-1 lead in the third inning when Carlos Velasquez scored on an Allen Winningham double down the left field line.
Charlotte tied the game, 2-2, when Thomas Bowker scored on a Brad Lamm sacrifice fly to center field in the third inning.
Southern Miss regained the lead, 3-2, when Stoy scored on Jarrett Hoffpauir's double to left field in the fourth inning.
Charlotte took their first lead of the series, 4-3, with two runs on two hits in the fourth inning. Bowker connected on a single to center field that scored Alex Derhak and Adam Willard.
Southern Miss regained the lead for good in a big way, 10-4, with seven runs on five hits in the fifth inning.
The two teams conclude their three-game Conference USA series, Sunday, April 7 at 1 pm.
