CHARLOTTE, NC - Charlotte lost to Southern Miss, 9-3, in the first game of their three-game Conference USA series. With the loss Charlotte falls to 16-13 overall and 6-4 in Conference USA. While, Southern Miss improved to 19-11 overall and 7-3 in Conference USA.

Charlotte's Alex Derhak lead the 49ers with three hits. While, Charlotte's Brian Bowman added two hits for the 49ers.

Southern Miss took an early 1-0 when Allen Winningham connected on a solo home run over the left field wall in the first inning.

Southern Miss increased their lead to 3-0 with a two runs in the second inning. Southern Miss added another run in the fourth inning making the score, 4-0.

Charlotte cut the Southern Miss lead in half, 4-2, with two runs on three hits in the fourth inning. Brad Lamm scored Charlotte's first run on a Southern Miss wild pitch. Then, Thomas Bowker scored the other run on Alex Derhak's triple to center field.

Southern Miss increased their lead to 5-2 with a run on three hits in the fifth inning.

Southern Miss increased their lead to 6-2 when Clint Stoy connected on a solo home run over the left field wall in the seventh inning.

Charlotte cut the Southern Miss lead to 6-3 when Travis Hill scored on a Brian Bowman single to right field in the seventh inning.

Southern Miss scored the final three runs of the game on three hits in the ninth inning making the final score, 9-3.
