CHARLOTTE, NC - In a game that saw both teams rally from several run deficits, East Carolina gained control of the game in the eighth inning en route to a 24-13 win over Charlotte.
Charlotte's Adam Willard collected a career-high five hits in the game including a double and a home run. He also scored four runs for the 49ers.
Ryan Jones and Trevor Lawhorn paced East Carolina with four hits.
East Carolina jumped out to an early lead with six runs on five hits in the first inning. Ryan Norwood and Adam Witter connected on home runs in the inning.
Charlotte scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning when Adam Willard and Kris Rochelle scored on an East Carolina fielding error.
Charlotte got back into the game when Randall Poplin connected on a bases-loaded double off the left field wall scoring Rochelle, Brian Scafe and Spencer Steedley in the third inning.
Then, the 49ers took the lead, 7-6, when Willard blasted a two-run home run over the right center field wall in the fourth inning.
Mike Minicozzi's home run over the right field wall in the fifth inning tied the score.
Then, Spencer Steedley, who reached base on a triple down the right field line, scored on an East Carolina wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Charlotte tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning. Willard scored the first run of the inning on Kris Rochelle's double down the left field line. Then, Rochelle scored on Jamie Rusco's single to right field.

Adam Floyd's two-out home run over the left field wall in the bottom of the seventh inning increased the 49ers lead to 11-9.
East Carolina regained the lead for good with a ten-run eighth inning. Darryl Lawhorn's grand slam over the scoreboard in right center field was the game-winning hit. Ryan Jones collected a three-run triple to center field in the inning. Trevor Lawhorn closed out the scoring with a two-run home run over the left field wall.
Willard scored his fourth run of the game on Jamie Rusco's infield groundout in the bottom of the eighth inning.
East Carolina plated five more runs in the ninth inning.
Charlotte's Floyd scored the final run of the game on Willard's single to right field in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The 49ers return to action Wednesday, April 7 at #20 North Carolina at 6 pm.
