The #18 East Carolina Pirates defeated the Charlotte 49ers, 8-0, in the first game of their three-game Conference USA baseball series.

With the loss, Charlotte falls to 13-10 on the season and 3-4 in Conference USA. While, East Carolina improves to 22-6 overall and 4-3 in Conference USA.

Thomas Bowker, Kris Rochelle and Michael Roane each had a hit for the 49ers.

Daryl Lawhorn paced East Carolina with two hits including a home run.

East Carolina scratched across the game's first run when Ryan Norwood scored on Billy Richardson's sacrifice bunt in the fifth inning.

The Pirates then exploded for six runs in the sixth inning. The big hit of the inning was a two-run home run by Trevor Lawhorn.

Daryl Lawhorn made the final score 8-0 with a solo home run over the center field wall in the seventh inning.

The two teams continue their three-game Conference USA series, Saturday, April 3 at 2 pm.
