East Carolina Slips By Charlotte In Baseball, 8-7

The 49ers collected their eighth double-figure hits game of the season.

GREENVILLE, NC - The Charlotte 49ers baseball team falls to East Carolina, 8-7, as the Pirates rallied with three unanswered runs in the final two innings to win the game.

Adam Willard paced the 49ers with three hits, two runs and two RBI. While Adam Floyd and George Sandel each had two hits for the Charlotte.

East Carolina's Mark Minicozzi connected on a two-out bases loaded single to right field in the bottom of the ninth inning that scored Ryan Jones with the game-winning run.

The Pirates scored the game's first run when Ryan Jones scored on Darryl Lawhorn's one-out double to right field in the first inning.

ECU plated two more runs in the second inning increasing their lead to 3-0.

Charlotte cut into the deficit when Adam Willard scored on George Sandel's sacrifice fly to left field in the third inning.

East Carolina pushed their lead to 5-1 with two runs in the third inning. Lawhorn scored his first run of the game in the inning. Then, Mark Minicozzi connected on a two-out solo home run over the center field for the inning's other run.

The 49ers got right back into the game, 5-4, when they scored three runs on four hits in the fourth inning. Jamie Rusco, who reached base on a double to right field, scored on Willard's single to right field. Then, Brad Lamm, who reached base on a single, scored on Brad Erwin's infield groundout. Willard scored the inning's final run on Adam Floyd's single to left field.

Charlotte took the lead on Randall Poplin's two-run opposite field home run over the left field wall in the fifth inning.

 

 

The 49ers added a run in the eighth inning when Jamie Rusco scored on Adam Willard's single to center field.

East Carolina knotted the score, 7-7, when John Poppert connected on a two-out two-run single to left center field in the eighth inning.

The 49ers return to action at Winthrop, Tuesday, March 25 at 6 pm.
