GREENVILLE, NC - The Charlotte 49ers lose game two of their Conference USA series with East Carolina, 15-4. The 49ers fall to 7-10 overall and 1-3 in Conference USA. While East Carolina improved to 15-7-1 overall and 3-2 in Conference USA.
George Sandel paced the 49ers with three hits and a career-high three steals. Sandel's three stolen bases are the most by a Niner since April, 2001. Randall Poplin had two hits and a team-high two RBI for Charlotte.
Charlotte plated the game's first run when George Sandel, who stole two bases to reach third after a one-out single to center field, scored on Randall Poplin's single to left field in the first inning.
East Carolina took their first lead of the series, 3-1, with three runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning. Jamie Paige, Daryl Lawhorn and Jake Smith scored in the inning for the Pirates.
The 49ers cut the East Carolina lead in half when Thomas Bowker scored on Poplin's second RBI single of the game to left field in the third inning.
The Pirates plated two more runs in the third inning when John Poppert connected on a two-out two-run double to center field.
Charlotte added a run in the fourth inning when Brad Erwin connected on a leadoff home run over the right center field wall.
The Pirates scored two runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the fifth inning. Then, they scored five runs in the seventh inning. The big blow of the seventh inning was Mark Minicozzi's grand slam over the right field wall.
Charlotte scored their final run in the seventh inning when Adam Willard scored on Sandel's single to right field.
