Charlotte, NC - Charlotte rallies to defeat Memphis, 6-5, behind Nick Blackmon's (Charlotte, NC/West Charlotte) home run in the eighth inning. Charlotte takes two out of the three games in the series to improve their overall record to 9-10 and Conference USA record to 2-1.
"This was a tremendous comeback by our team," Charlotte coach Loren Hibbs said. "Nick Blackmon was tremendous. He had a triple and the game winning home run in his final two at-bats."
Memphis jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two runs in each of the first two innings. Memphis first two runs came when Michael Lewis and Daniel Uggla scored on a Barrett Smith single to center field with one out in the first inning.
Memphis scored their two runs in the second inning when Lewis connected on a two-out two-run double to center field that scored Joshua Payne and Kyle Scott.
Charlotte scored their first two runs of the game in the fourth inning to cut the Memphis lead to 4-2. Brian Bowman connected on a two-run single to right center field that scored Brad Erwin and Brad Lamm.
The 49ers tied the score at 4-4 with two runs in the fifth inning. Thomas Bowker led off the inning with a home run over the left field wall. Then, George Sandel doubled to left center field. He would then score the game tying run on an Erwin single to right center field.
Charlotte took a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning. Nick Blackmon led off the inning with a triple down the right field line. He then gave Charlotte the lead when he scored on Bowker's sacrifice fly to left field.

Then, Blackmon gave Charlotte the lead for good when he connected on his first career home run over the right field wall in the eighth inning.
Charlotte reliever Jacob Chaney threw two and a third innings of scoreless baseball to earn his second win of the season. Memphis reliever Layne Dawson gave up the Blackmon home run to pick up his first loss of the season.
