Kannapolis, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers had their final off-campus home game of the season spoiled by the College of Charleston in a 4-2 game-two loss at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in Kannapolis, N.C. The loss was the first for Charlotte at home this season (12-1) and the first for Charlotte ace Adam Mills (5-1). Cougars ace Jeff Beliveau lasted eight innings, allowing seven hits and two runs, walking three and striking out eight to get the win (2-0).
The Cougars snap a two-game slide after falling to Charlotte in game one earlier in the day.
Charleston (14-4) jumped on the board early with three runs in the first, though just one was earned. Mills also gave up an earned run in the third on four hits.
The Niners (15-4) got a run back in the fourth. Charleston starter Jeff Beliveau walked the first two batters and designated hitter Chris Taylor hit a one-out RBI double to right field to score leadoff man O'Brien Taylor.
Charlotte got a run in the ninth when Beliveau allowed a hit to first baseman Spencer Steedley, who scored on a hit by pinch hitter Alan Parks, but Charlotte stranded a pair in the ninth in the loss.
Charlotte and Charleston will finish the series in Charleston on Sunday, with a 1 p.m. start.
