Charlotte, NC - Charlotte and Memphis split their Conference USA season opening baseball doubleheader. Memphis won the first game 12-8 behind four home runs. While, Charlotte won the second game 5-2 behind a complete game 11-strikeout pitching performance by Zach Treadway.
In game one, Charlotte scored first with two runs on three hits in the second inning. Eric Shanks reached on a Memphis error to begin the inning. Then, he advanced to third on Brad Lamm's double to left centerfield. Shanks scored the game's first run on Nick Blackmon's infield single. Lamm scored the other run on Thomas Bowker's single up the middle.
Memphis took the lead for good at 4-2 on Kyle Scott's solo home run and Daniel Uggla's three-run home run in the third inning.
Memphis increased their lead to 7-2 with home runs Josh Payne and Ryan O'Malley in the fourth inning.
Memphis scored a run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to increase their lead to 10-2. Then, Charlotte scored two runs on doubles by Brad Erwin and Brad Lamm in the sixth inning making the score 10-4.
Memphis increased their lead to 11-4 on a run in the seventh inning. Then Charlotte made the score 11-6 with two runs on two hits in the seventh inning.
Memphis scored their final run in the eighth inning to make the score 12-4. Then, Charlotte scored two runs in the seventh and ninth innings to make the final score, 12-8.
In game two, Charlotte's Zach Treadway was the story as he limited a Memphis team that had 13 hits and 12 runs in game one to four hits and two runs. He enjoyed his first career complete game pitching performance with a career-high 11 strikeouts.
The 49ers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with two runs in each of the first two innings. Thomas Bowker scored the game's first run on an infield groundout in the first inning.. Mike Taylor scored the second run of the inning on Brad Erwin's single to centerfield.

Memphis cut the Charlotte lead to 4-1` in the third inning when Rickey Clinton scored on a Michael Lewis sacrifice fly to rightfield.
Charlotte increased their lead to 5-1 on Erwin's solo home run to rightfield in the third inning.
Memphis scored the game's final run when Ryan O'Malley scored on another Lewis sacrifice fly to rightfield.
The two teams conclude their three-game series, Sunday, March 18 at 1 pm.
