Charlotte, NC - Charlotte behind two Brad Erwin home runs and solid pitching from John Maine defeated UNC Asheville, 14-7.
This stopped Charlotte's three game losing streak. The 49ers improved to 7-9 on the season. While UNC Asheville fell to 1-10 on the season.
Maine won his fifth game of the season as he tied his career-high with 11 strikeouts in six innings. Erwin's two home runs were the first time that a 49er has hits two home runs in a game since Eric Shanks accomplished that feat, March 12, 2000. Erwin had 5 RBIs in the game.
Charlotte took an early 1-0 when Thomas Bowker led off the game with a double off the left field wall. He would then score the game's first run on a Mike Taylor infield groundout in the first inning.
Charlotte increased their lead to 3-0 when Nick Blackmon connected on a two-out single to right field that scored Brad Lamm and Chris Brake in the second inning.
UNC Asheville cut the Charlotte lead to 3-2 in the third inning when Matt Neils connected on a two-run home run over the left field wall.
Charlotte increased their lead to 8-2 with five runs on four hits in the third inning. The big hit of the inning was Erwin's two-run double to right field.
UNC Asheville cut the 49ers lead to 8-3 with a run in the fourth inning. Corey Mercer, who led off the inning with an infield single, scored the run on a Denver Edick single to left field.
Charlotte increased their lead to 10-3 when Brad Erwin connected on a two-run home run over the center field in the fourth inning.
The 49ers added another run in the fifth inning when Derek Dixon scored on a Charlotte infield groundout.

Charlotte scored two more runs in the eighth inning. The big hit of the inning was Brad Erwin's second home run of the game over the left field wall.
UNC Asheville added three runs in the ninth inning to make the final score 14-7. The three runs came on four hits in their final at-bat.
Charlotte returns to action when they host Memphis in their Conference USA opener this weekend, March 16-18.
