Norfolk, VA - Charlotte falls to Old Dominion 19-9 to close out their two-game series.
Charlotte jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Thomas Bowker led off the inning with a walk. He stole second and advanced to third on an Old Dominion throwing error. He scored the game's first run on Mike Taylor's sacrifice fly to rightfield.
Old Dominion took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Three of the Monarchs first four runners reached base and would eventually score.
Charlotte would retake the lead 5-3 with four runs in the second inning. All four Charlotte runs came with two outs. Derek Dixon, Andrae Butts, Victor Puentes and Bowker all scored for Charlotte. The big blow of the inning was a two-run single to leftfield by Bowker.
Then, Old Dominion regained the lead for good 8-5 with five runs on six hits in the bottom of the second inning. Travis Silver, Ross Robertson and Jared Musolf all had extra base hits in the inning.
The 49ers cut the Old Dominion lead to 8-7 with two runs in the third inning. Chris Brake, who reached base on a single to right centerfield, scored the first run of the inning on an Old Dominion throwing error. Butts scored the second run of the inning on Bowker's single down the rightfield line.
Old Dominion increased their lead to 12-7 with four runs on three hits in the third inning. The Monarchs added a run in each of the next two innings to increase their lead to 14-7.
Charlotte cut into their deficit with one run on two hits in the sixth inning. Brad Lamm scored on a Mike Taylor single to rightfield.

Charlotte scored the game's final run when Eric Shanks scored in the seventh inning on a Derek Dixon single to centerfield.
Charlotte returns home to host UNC Asheville, Tuesday, March 13 at 6 pm.
