CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The baseball team pounded UNC Greensboro 14-1 behind a season-high 16 hits and solid pitching from John Maine.
Charlotte improved to 5-6 overall with the win. While UNC Greensboro fell to 6-4 on the season.
UNC Greensboro scored their only run to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run over the left centerfield wall by Jesse Martin.
Charlotte answered with five runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 5-1 lead. Brad Lamm tied the score at 1-1 when he scored on a Chris Brake single to centerfield. Then, Nick Blackmon gave Charlotte a 3-1 lead with a two-run single to centerfield. Derek Dixon would score Charlotte's fourth run on a wild pitch. Then, Blackmon finished off Charlotte's scoring in the inning when he scored on a George Sandel single to rightfield.
Charlotte would increase their lead to 11-1 with six runs on six hits in the fourth inning. The 49ers sent 10 batters to the plate in that inning. Brake had the big hit of the inning which was a two-run single to leftfield.
Charlotte would increase their lead to 13-1 with two runs on two hits in the sixth inning. Brake added another RBI in that inning on an infield groundout that scored Lamm. Jacob Chaney scored Charlotte's other run on a UNC Greensboro error.
Charlotte would close out the scoring with one run in the eighth inning on three hits. Brake added another RBI with a run scoring double to leftfield.
All nine of Charlotte's starters scored in the game with Lamm leading the way with a season-high four runs scored.
Brake, Chaney and Sandel each had three hits for Charlotte. Brake collected a team-high five RBIs in the game.
