CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn a 5-4 come-from-behind win over George Washington in game two of their three game series.
Charlotte improved to 4-6 on the season with the win. While, George Washington fell to 1-5 on the season.
"This was a tremendous comeback for us," Charlotte coach Loren Hibbs said. "We had several good at-bats in the final inning to rally in this game. George Washington had their senior closer in the game and we managed to get several key hits off of him to win the game."
Charlotte jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Thomas Bowker scored the game's first run on an Eric Shanks single to leftfield in the first inning.
George Washington tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning. Jake Wald doubled to centerfield with one out in the inning. He would score the Colonials' first run on an infield groundout.
Charlotte took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. Chris Brake connected on his first career extra base hit which was a double to left centerfield. He then scored on a George Sandel single to leftfield.
The 49ers added another run to increase their lead to 3-1 in the sixth inning. Sandel would score Charlotte's third run on a Thomas Bowker triple to the centerfield wall.
George Washington would score the next three runs to take a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning. The Colonials scored two runs off Charlotte pitcher Pat Gambale in the seventh inning. Dan Rouhier, who had reached base after getting hit by a pitch, would later score on an infield groundout. Ross Smirne , who doubled down the rightfield line to reach base, would score the game-tying run on a Wald single to leftfield.

Charlotte would score two runs in the ninth inning to earn their fourth win of the season. Bowker led off the inning with an infield single. He would score the game-tying run on a Brad Erwin triple to the rightfield wall. Erwin would score the game-winning run on Brad Lamm's two-out infield single.
Charlotte reliever Jacob Chaney would record his first career win with just over two innings of relief pitching. George Washington reliever Bryan Beggs fell to 0-1 on the season after allowing three hits and two runs in the ninth inning.
Charlotte concludes their three-game series with George Washington, Sunday, February 25 at 1 pm.
