GREENVILLE, SC - The Charlotte 49ers baseball team pounded out a season-high 14 hits as they posted a 7-3 road win over Furman. With the win, the 49ers improved to 2-2 on the season.
Charlotte's Randall Poplin paced the 49ers with four hits including his first career home run which was a grand slam in the sixth inning.
Charlotte took a 1-0 lead when Nick Blackmon scored on George Sandel's two-out single to left field in the fourth inning.
Furman tied the game, 1-1, when Derek Norman scored on Sam McLain's double to right field in the fourth inning.
The 49ers regained the lead for good, 3-1, when Jamie Rusco connected on his first career home-run which was a two-run blast off the scoreboard in right field in the fifth inning.
Charlotte increased their lead to 7-1 when Randall Poplin connected on his first career home run which was a two-out grandslam over the left center field wall in the sixth inning.
Furman added two runs in the ninth inning making the final score, 7-3.
The 49ers host instate foe High Point in a three-game series this weekend, February 21-23, at Tom and Lib Phillips Field. The first game of the series is set for Friday, February 21 at 3:30 pm.
