GREENVILLE, S.C. - Behind 11 hits and solid starting pitching from John Maine, Charlotte posted their first win of the season, 6-4, over Furman Tuesday.

Charlotte scored first when they began the fourth inning with three straight hits. Brad Erwin led off the inning with a single to rightfield. He advanced to third on Alex Derhak's double to centerfield. Then, Brad Lamm connected on his first home run of the season over the leftfield wall to give Charlotte a 3-0 lead. Thomas Bowker increased the lead to 4-0 with his first career home run over the centerfield wall with one out in the fourth. All four runs were scored off Furman starting pitcher Coogie Freedman.

Charlotte increased their lead to 5-0 when Erwin connected on his second home run of the season to leadoff the fifth inning off Furman reliever Mike Dugan.

Charlotte added another run in the sixth inning when Brian Bowman doubled down the leftfield line with one out. He would later score on a George Sandel single to leftfield.

Furman scored two runs in each of the last two innings of the game off Charlotte's bullpen to make the final score 6-4. They had five hits in those two innings.

Charlotte starting pitcher John Maine threw six innings of scoreless baseball to record his first win of the season. Charlotte's Brannon Hamby picked up his first save of the season by pitching the ninth inning.

Charlotte returns to action this weekend in the Round Rock Express Tournament in Round Rock, Texas. They will face Southwest Texas in the first game of the tournament, Friday, February 9 at 3 pm.
