HIGH POINT, N.C. - Charlotte fell to High Point 8-5 in their season opener. This is the second earliest season-opener in school history.

High Point scored first when Chris Vinar reached on a Charlotte error in the bottom of the first inning.. He then would later score on another Charlotte error.

Charlotte tied the game at 1-1 when Brad Erwin connected on his first home run of the season.

The teams exchanged over the next couple of innings leaving the game knotted at 3-3 in the fifth inning.

Then, High Point took control of the game with four runs on two hits and two Charlotte errors in the fifth inning. The big blow of the inning was a Kirk Harris two-run homerun.

High Point would increase their lead to 8-3 with one run in the sixth inning.

Then, Charlotte scored two runs in the seventh inning to make the final score 8-5. Charlotte's Nick Blackmon connected on his first career extra base hit with a triple to leadoff the seventh. He would later score on an infield groundout. Mike Taylor, who walked with two outs, would score the game's final run on an Erwin single in the inning.

High Point's Kevin Burch threw six and two thirds innings to pick up the win. Charlotte pitcher Pat Gambale was credited with the loss. While High Point's Jason Brennan recorded a save.

Charlotte returns to action on the road at Furman, Tuesday, February 6.
