Charlotte Heads to Greenville for NCAA Southeast Regionals

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers men's and women's cross country teams will head to East Carolina University in Greenville for the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 13.
Seven women and seven men will compete in the 6K and 10K races, respectively. The top two teams will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, to be held Monday, Nov. 22 at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN. Thirteen teams will be given at-large bids based on the order of finish, and four individuals not on an already-qualified team will also earn berths to the NCAA Championships. The top 25 individuals earn All-Region awards.
Two weeks ago, the Charlotte men finished a surprising second (79 points) at the C-USA Championships, with senior Ed Schlichter leading the team with a ninth-place finish (25:14, 8K).
In all, six 49er men placed in the top 25 - freshman Nick Sunseri (13th, 25:26), junior Jamil Muhaimin (15th, 25:28), freshman Matt Hipps (20th, 25:52), sophomore Russell Slade (22nd, 25:56), and sophomore Ken Simeone (23rd, 25:59). Freshman Ryan Jank was Charlotte's seventh runner across the line. Schlichter, Sunseri and Muhaimin all garnered All-Conference awards for their top-15 performances.
Competing this weekend will be the same group of seven runners. The men are currently ranked eighth in the NCAA Southeast Regional Poll.
The women two weeks ago placed seventh overall in the conference championship team race. Leading the way was sophomore Tsehaye Dagnachew (10th, 22:07), who was followed closely by junior Jane Daniels (15th, 22:19). Both earned All-Conference honors. The duo will lead the women into a national-class field, where five women's teams are either ranked or receiving votes.
Competing for the women's team will be senior Liz Smith, junior Jane Daniels, sophomores Candace Hitchcock, Tsehaye Dagnachew, and Amelia Slagle, and freshmen Summer Graham and Ciara Delgado.
