Charlotte's Daniels Named A-10 Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year

Philadelphia, Pa. - Eric Contreras of Dayton and Jane Daniels of Charlotte have been named Atlantic 10 Student-Athletes of the Year in men's and women's cross country, respectively, in voting conducted among the Conference's sports information directors.
Daniels placed eighth at 2006 A-10 Championship on Oct. 28, earning All-Conference honors and helping Charlotte to a third-place finish in the event. The senior from Oostburg, WI, also earned top finishes at the George Mason Invitational (third of 108) and Asics/Winthrop Invitational (fifth of 78) - both in September. In the classroom, Daniels sports a perfect 4.00 grade point average as a biology major.
Joining Daniels on the women's cross country Academic All-Conference team are three-time A-10 champion Rachel Papin of La Salle, 2006 All-Conference performers Christina DeRosa of UMass, Audrey Noonan of George Washington, and Richmond's Amanda Russell, along with Rhode Island's Katherine Guilfoyle and Courtney Klenk. Guilfoyle and Papin are repeat honorees from 2005, while Russell earned Academic All-Conference acclaim in 2004 and Klenk was honored in 2003.
Contreras, who repeats as the men's cross country Student-Athlete of the Year, placed second for Dayton and 21st overall at the 2006 A-10 Championship, finishing in a time of 26:18. The runner-up showing was a consistent finish for Contreras this year as he placed second among the Flyers in every meet in 2006. The Flyers' senior captain from Centerville, OH, who was recognized for his team leadership and academic achievement by being named the 2005 "High Flyer", sports a 3.94 grade point average while majoring in three different subjects - economics, marketing, and Spanish.
Contreras is joined on the men's cross country Academic All-Conference team by 2006 All-Conference performer Eric Robertson of Duquesne, Ryan Durkin of Massachusetts, Fordham's Thomas Finnerty, Ryan Jank of Charlotte, and Mat Stuber of Saint Louis. Contreras, Jank, and Stuber are repeat honorees from last year.
