Molly Kerin Chosen to C-USA All-Decade Team

First-ever Conference USA Champion chosen to represent Charlotte.

Oct. 28, 2004

Irving, Texas - In conjunction with the celebration of the league's 10th anniversary this year, Conference USA is naming a Team of the Decade for each of the conference's 19 sports. The women's cross country All-Decade team was announced Thursday, and Charlotte's Molly Kerin was selected to the team by the league's current women's cross country coaches.

Kerin, who ran just one season in Conference USA, made the most of her opportunity by becoming the first-ever C-USA champion in 1995. Charlotte joined the conference at its inception in 1995, Kerin's senior cross country season.

The 1995 C-USA Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year, Kerin finished 18th at the NCAA Championships to earn her second consecutive All-American award. Her 18th-place showing still stands as the highest finish by any C-USA runner at NCAA Nationals, male or female. She is the only two-time All-American for Charlotte in cross country.

Kerin set what was then a school record for a 5K race with a time of 17:15 at the North Carolina Collegiate Championships that year, and finished her career with ten of the top 20 cross country times in 49ers history. She earned two straight team MVP awards in 1994 and 1995, when Charlotte finished third as a team in the first-ever C-USA Championship.

Charlotte's Kenneth Svendsen and Vince Sherry were chosen to represent Charlotte on the Conference USA Men's Cross Country All-Decade Team, it was announced yesterday.
