Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers men's and women's cross country teams are getting set to run at the Atlantic 10 Championships this weekend at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, Pa. The women's race begins at 10 a.m., with the men to follow at 10:45 a.m. in the chilly, Pennsylvania air.
The 49ers send runners who should finish near the top of each race, including Tsehaye Dagnachew on the women's side and Adu Dentamo on the men's side.
Coach Brad Herbster gave a quick preview.
"La Salle is the favorite going in and Duquesne is very stong as the defnding champs from last year," said Herbster.
"On the women's side, La Salle and Richmond will be competing for the top two spots."
"It's a hilly course, and we have never seen it, so we have got to take advantage of the Friday afternoon walk-through to get familiar and take the advantages away from the teams who have run on it before."
The Niners finished second on the women's side behind La Salle and third on the men's side behind Duquesne and La Salle at the 2005 Championships.
The 49ers have seen individual times drop at nearly every meet this season, and the team has worked hard at preparing in groups to pace each other for even better times this year.
