Ficken Earns Third Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week Award

Philadelphia - Charlotte 49ers senior Cassie Ficken captured her third Atlantic 10 Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week award, the league office announced on Monday. It was the sixth cross country weekly award for the 49ers overall this fall.
On Saturday, Oct 1, Ficken finished the 310-runner Collegiate Invitational at the Paul Short Run in ninth place overall. It was her first 6K race of the season, and she finished in a time of 20:45.3.
Cassie was the top finisher from the six A-10 teams in attendance, beating out La Salle's Rachel Papin by seven seconds.
Ficken was in a tight pack of runners at the finish, with just four seconds separating her from the fourth-place finisher. She helped Charlotte to a 14th-place finish in a 47-team field.
It is the third A-10 Performer of the Week award for Ficken, who has captured the honor every week she ran a 5K or longer race this season.
The 49ers men's and women's teams have just one race remaining before heading to Philadelphia for their first-ever Atlantic 10 Championship races at the end of this month. The teams have next weekend off in preparation for the Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Indiana on Oct. 15. The A-10 Championships will be held on Oct. 29.
