Ficken, Dentamo Earn Second Atlantic 10 Cross Country Awards

Philadelphia - Charlotte 49ers senior Cassie Ficken (Conifer, Colo.) and freshman Adu Dentamo (Charlotte, N.C.) each earned their second Atlantic 10 Conference weekly awards on Monday. Ficken was chosen as the Women's Performer of the Week for the second time this season, while Dentamo earned his second Men's Rookie of the Week honor.
Cassie Ficken has clocked the top two times in the Atlantic 10 Conference this season, including a 17:41 finish in the 5K Nike Race of Champions at the Great American Cross Country Festival on Saturday. Ficken finished 14th in a field of 112 runners at that meet, which included some of the best competition in the nation and multiple nationally-ranked teams. It was her second Women's Performer of the Week award in four weeks this season, and Ficken has won the award both time she ran a 5K race this year.
Adu Dentamo (Charlotte, N.C./Vance HS) was chosen A-10 Men's Rookie of the Week for the second time in the last three weeks. Dentamo was 33rd overall in a deep 8K Nike Race of Champions field at the Great American Festival on Saturday, helping the Charlotte men's cross country team to a fifth-place finish in a strong 12-team field. Dentamo improved his 8K time by 12 seconds from his last outing two weekends ago, clocking in at 25:23.
Additionally, the Charlotte men's team was chosen in a tie for first with La Salle in this week's Atlantic 10 coaches' poll. The Niners women's team was ranked second this week by the A-10 coaches, behind La Salle.
Ficken was first honored by the Atlantic 10 after capturing the individual title at the 2005 Clemson Invitational on Sept. 12. She covered that 5K course in a time of 17:36, which remains the fastest 5K time in the Atlantic 10 so far this year.
Dentamo was the A-10 Rookie of the Week on Sept. 12 for his performance at Clemson. He covered the 8K layout in a time of 25:35, finishing third on the 49ers team and in ninth place overall in the 84-man field.
