Charlotte, N.C. - For the second consecutive week, multiple members of the Charlotte 49ers Cross Country teams were recognized for their strong weekend performances at the Eye Opener in Spartanburg, S.C. This week, junior Aja Jackson was named Atlantic 10 Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week, while freshmen Amanda Goetschius and Dakota Lowery were named A-10 Rookies of the Week for the men's and women's sides, respectively.
Jackson, who was also last week's Performer of the Week, finished first in the 47-person field at the Eye Opener. The 2006 All-A-10 selection clocked in at 18:09 for the 5K course, anchoring Charlotte's first-place team score.
Goetschius, who also earned her second consecutive weekly conference nod, placed second over the weekend with a time of 18:15.
Lowery, finishing the men's 8K course in 25:58 to win the Division I individual title, lead Charlotte to its second consecutive perfect score of 15 and the team title. He is just the second 49er men's cross country runner to earn weekly conference honors.
After a weekend off, the 49ers return to the trail Friday, Sept. 21 when they host the First Annual Charlotte Invitational on the campus of UNC Charlotte.
