Charlotte, N.C. - After their first week on the trail, junior Aja Jackson (Charlotte, N.C./E.E. Waddell) was named Atlantic 10 Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week, while freshman Amanda Goetschius (Franklinville, Pa./Delsea Regional) was named A-10 Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week. Both runners anchored the 49ers' title-winning performance at the Gamecock Invitational at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. this past weekend.
Jackson, who was an All-A-10 selection in 2006 and an All-Rookie selection in 2005, paced the team with her first-place finish, clocking in at 18:02.20. She joins the ranks of Tsehaye Dagnachew and three-time Performer of the Week selection Cassie Ficken, who picked up their accolades in 2006 and 2005, respectively.
Newcomer Goetschius came in second at 18:04.05, marking her as the second 49er to pick up weekly A-10 Rookie honors in program history. Jackson received the program's first rookie nod during the 2005 season.
Both the men's and women's cross country teams return to action Saturday at the Eye Opener in Spartanburg, S.C.
