Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers cross country teams have released their 2006 schedule. Highlighting the schedule are several quality meets including the George Mason Invitational, NCAA Pre Nationals, A-10 Championships, the NCAA Southeast Regionals and the NCAA Championships.
The 49ers will debut in 2006 at the Charlotte Relay at McAlpine Park on Saturday, September 2. The Charlotte Relay is always a great meet to kick off the season, designed to give some young athletes experience at the collegiate level. The men's race begins at 8:30 a.m., with the women to run at 9:15.
Next on the slate for the 49ers will be a trip to Rock Hill, SC., where Charlotte will compete in the Winthrop Invitational on Sept. 16. Adu Dentamo should lead the 49ers to success at Winthrop, it will be the first 8k of the season for the 49ers.
On Sept. 30, the competition gears up as the men and women travel to George Mason University in Washington, D.C. Then the 49ers travel to Terre Haute, Indiana to compete in the NCAA Pre National Invitational on Oct. 14. On Oct. 28, the Charlotte cross country teams will travel to Pittsburgh to compete in their second A-10 Cross Country Championship. Last year the women placed second and the men placed third.
The schedule for November has the Niners competing in two events. On Nov. 11, the 49ers travel to Louisville, KY., for the Southeast Regional Championships. At the event last year, the women's squad placed 10th overall and Cassie Ficken earned a berth to the NCAA Championships. The Niners men finished 16th as a team.
The season wraps up with a return visit to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA championships on Nov. 20.
