49ers Women's Soccer and Cross Country at Home This Weekend

Soccer hosts Miss. St., Cross County opens 2006 at Charlotte Relay

Aug. 31, 2006

Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers cross country teams and the women's soccer teams are in action at home this weekend.

Women's soccer hosts SEC foe Mississippi State at Transamerica Field, Friday, September 1 at 7 pm. The 49ers are off to an undefeated start with a victory over Francis Marion and a double overtime tie with Georgia State at home last weekend. Freshman Hailey Beam leads the 49ers in scoring after tallying two of the team's three goals this season. Senior Kelsie Ormsby recorded the 49ers other goal on the season.

Cross Country hosts the Charlotte Relay at McAlpine Creek Park on Monroe Road to open their 2006 season. Both Niners cross country teams are looking to make a bigger splash than in their first foray last year in the Atlantic 10. In 2005, the women finished with second place, while the men ran third at the conference championships. The ladies are paced by NCAA qualifier Tsehaye Dagnachew. The men are led by All-Conference sophomore Adu Dentamo. Both squads were picked to finish third in the preseason coaches poll.
