Camp Dates:
July 9-12 - Day Camper or Overnight Camper option
The Charlotte Distance Camp provides athletes with an inside look at collegiate training. The camp is designed to provide instruction in the distance running events. The camp consists of form analysis, nutrition classes, hill running, and shoe clinics in selecting the proper racing and training shoes. It allows athletes to learn about collegiate level workouts and begin taking that step to the next level by teaching the athletes the right time of year to use the workouts and most importantly, the periodization of training.
The focus of the camp is to instruct athletes in stretching, strength training, running workout and developing racing strategies. The camp will also include instruction and drills for campers interested in the steeplechase.
Athletes train on miles of soft trails located near and on the Charlotte Campus. Track workouts are conducted at the Irwin Belk Track located on the Charlotte Campus. Each afternoon, Coach Herbster presents an optional lecture for college bound runners. This lecture is on the physiology of distance running paying specific attention to the personalization of individualized distance running plans.
The 12th will be the camp race at McAlpine Creek Park. This race will be open to the public and will provide a great environment for all campers.
