Charlotte, N.C. - After holding the first on-campus meet in over 25 years last season, the Charlotte 49ers men's and women's cross country teams will embark on a landmark season in 2008, hosting two meets, including the Atlantic 10 Championship. The two meets are featured in a competitive season schedule, which includes a trip to the NCAA Pre-Nationals, the Paul Short Invitational and a pair of meets at Appalachian State.
Following the season opener at Appalachian State, Charlotte will host the Bojangles Cross Country Invitational Saturday, September 13, with the men's college and open 8K commencing at 8 a.m., followed by the women's 5K at 8:40 a.m. The high school boys and girls sections, are slated for 9:15 a.m. and 9:50 a.m., respectively. After starting the course directly behind the Irwin Belk Track and Field Complex, runners will cross the finish line on Transamerica Field.
The 49ers will return to the same course on November 1 for the 2008 A-10 Championships. The race will mark the first on-campus conference championship Charlotte has hosted in its Division I history.
The 49er men and women finished the 2007 season ninth and fourth, respectively, in the conference. In regular season action, they combined for eight meet team titles.
