GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Charlotte 49ers cross country teams wrapped up their seasons Saturday, competing at the NCAA Southeast Regionals at Furman. The men finished 11th out of 29, while the women were 24th out of 26.
NC State swept both titles to advance the NCAA Championships. William & Mary's Sean Graham won the men's race, finishing the 10K course in 30:15. Shalane Falnagan from North Carolina finished first on the women's side. She completed the 6K course in 20:26.
Kenneth Svendsen posted the top time for Charlotte. He placed 32nd with a time of 31:34. Ian Dickinson was next for the 49ers, running a 32:31 to finish 63rd. Mike Ryan was 79th with a time of 33:00. Ed Schlichter scored fourth for the Niners in 107th place with 33:39. Luke Pitman capped the scoring for the Charlotte with a time of 33:49 to finish 120th.
Cassie Ficken was the lead runner for the women's team. She was 67th with a time of 23:37. Laura Syracuse placed second for the 49ers in 81st with a 24:00 time. It was a bit of a gap to the next Niners runner. Lisa Ottens was 153rd with a time of 25:39. Claire Shepherd and Sarah Carter rounded out the Niners' score, finishing 179th and 180th, respectively. Shepherd had a time of 27:03, while Carter posted a time of 27:21.
