Philadelphia - The Charlotte women's team put three runners in the top seven overall, including a third-place finish by senior Cassie Ficken, as the 49ers finished second at the Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Belmont Plateau. The Charlotte men's team, led by Nick Sunseri's sixth-place showing, finished third in the team competition.

Three women and two men earned All-Conference honors for the 49ers in their first season as members of the Atlantic 10.

WOMEN'S RECAP
Ficken finished third overall behind La Salle's Rachel Papin, who won her second straight A-10 individual title, and Xavier's Amanda Brown. Charlotte junior Tsehaye Dagnachew finished fifth overall, while freshman Aja Jackson earned A-10 Most Outstanding Rookie honors by finishing seventh overall. She was the top freshman finisher in the race.

The Charlotte women finished second in the team competition, behind defending champion La Salle. The Explorers put all five of their scorers in the race's top 15 runners overall to win the team title. Freshman Stephanie Snyder was 42nd and Amelia Slagle was 44th to round out the scoring for the 49ers.

Richmond finished third with 104 points, followed by Rhode Island (109), Xavier (143), Duquesne (170), Saint Joseph's (173), Dayton (195), Massachusetts (220), Fordham (238), George Washington (299), Saint Louis (310), Temple (413), and St. Bonaventure (454).

MEN'S RECAP
On the men's side, sophomore Nick Sunseri had his best race of the season to finish sixth overall and lead the 49ers men's team to a third place finish in the men's team competition. Duquesne captured its first-ever A-10 title, knocking off four-time defending champion La Salle, which settled for second.

It was the second straight All-Conference honor for Sunseri, who captured that honor in Conference USA last year as a true freshman.

Charlotte freshman Adu Dentamo was second on the 49ers team and 13th overall to earn All-Atlantic 10 accolades. Jamil Muhaimin and Russell Slade finished back-to-back in 16th and 17th place, while Ken Simeone rounded out the scoring with a 22nd-place finish.

The Charlotte men were followed by Saint Joseph's (111), Richmond (155), Massachusetts (167), Xavier (184), Dayton (185), Fordham (198), George Washington (292), Saint Louis (310), Rhode Island (334), Temple (434), and St. Bonaventure (453).
