Charlotte Women Third, Men Fifth at A-10 Cross Country Championships

Dagnachew Second Overall, Dentamo Fourth in Respective Races

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Charlotte 49ers recorded a women's third place finish and a men's fifth place result at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Saturday. Seniors Tsehaye Dagnachew and Jane Daniels, and sophomore Aja Jackson all finished in the top 15 to net All-Conference Honors for 2006. On the men's side, only sophomore Adu Dentamo earned All-Atlantic 10 honors for his result.

Dagnachew recorded a second-place finish with a time of 17:51.5 in the women's 6K run. She was just 10.5 seconds of the race winner, Rachel Papin of La Salle. It was Papin's third individual title in the conference championship race. La Salle took the women's title with a score of 26, with Richmond posting an 81, and Charlotte a 91 to take third.

The Niners women saw Daniels place eighth overall, with sophomores Jackson 12th and Stephanie Snyder 26th and senior Amelia Slagel 43rd.

Sophomores Liana Blue and Erin Macauley were 57th and 70 respectively.

On the men's side, Dentamo was fourth overall with a time of 25:09.4 in the men's 8K. He was 30 seconds off the pace of race-winner Sean Quigley of La Salle. Quigley was also the defending champion who repeated to win the race. The Explorers also captured the men's title, with a score of 52. Defending champ Duquesne was second with an 83, with Massachusetts netting 99 and Richmond 101 in front of Charlotte's 104.

Senior Ken Simeone was 16th and junior Ryan Jank was 24th. Freshman Chase Eckard managed a 25th place finish, with junior Matt Hipps 35th and sophomore Matt Dobler 43rd. Freshman Jordan Rickard rounded out the scoring for the Niners with a 54th place finish.

 

 

The Niners will next race at the Southeast Regional Championships in two weeks at Louisville, Ky.
