Cross Country Teams Place Third, Seventh at C-USA Championships

The men and women each had two runners earn all-conference honors.

ST. LOUIS - Charlotte's cross country teams continued their season at the Conference USA Championships Saturday in St. Louis. The men's team placed third, while the women's finished seventh.

South Florida captured the men's title, while Marquette won the women's. Tulane's Solomon Kandie won the individual title in the men's race. Tulane's Theresa Maru won the women's race. Charlotte's Ian Dickinson also made his way to the awards stand, earning Freshman of the Year honors.

Both Charlotte teams had a pair of runners earn all-conference honors. Dickinson and Josh Baker finished seventh and ninth, respectively for the men, while Jen Taylor and Naomi Wendland finished sixth and 13th for the women.

Dickinson finished the 8,000-meter course in a time of 24:55.55 to lead the men. Baker was ninth with a 25:17.08 time to finish second for the men. Ed Schlichter finished third for the 49ers and 16th overall with a time of 25:41.88. Pat Strothmann was 30th with a 26:12.69 time. Dan Monroe capped Charlotte's score, finishing 35th with a time of 26:30.12.

Taylor led the women's team, finishing the 6,000-meter course in 21:52.90. Wendland was second for the Niners with a time of 22:14.21 to finish 13th overall. Emily Wehr was 42nd with a time of 23:53.11. Britt Ellis and Laura Syracuse rounded out Charlotte's top five, placing 55th and 70th, respectively. Ellis finished with a time of 24:51.08, while Syracuse posted a time of 25:47.71.
