TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Charlotte 49ers cross country team returned to action Saturday, competing at the NCAA Pre-National Meet at Indiana State. The women's team placed 15th in the open race, while the men finished 23rd in the white division. The men finished ahead of No. 17 Duke, North Carolina and Wake Forest as well as C-USA rivals Marquette and Cincinnati.
Cassie Ficken was the lead runner for both 49ers teams. She was 17th overall to pace the women with a time of 22:09 for the 6K course. Jen Taylor was next to cross the line for Charlotte in 44th place with a 22:54 time. Laura Syracuse finished 73rd with a time of 23:19. Andria Craig finished fourth for the Niners. She was 124th with a time of 24:01. Klara Jarolimova capped the women's score in 157th with a time of 24:40.
Vince Sherry was the top finisher for the 49ers' men. He led the way with a 45th-place standing and a time of 24:47. Josh Baker was in 90th with a 25:11 time. He was followed by Ed Schlichter in 104th place with a time of 25:18. Jared Kessen finished as the No. 4 runner for Charlotte. He posted a time of 25:41 to finish 146th. Mike Ryan rounded out the men's score with a time of 26:25 to place 212th.
The 49ers return to action Nov. 2, when they compete at the Conference USA Championships, hosted by Southern Miss.
