Women's Cross Country Makes It Two Wins In A Row

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers women's cross country team won their second meet in a row, finishing first out of 10 teams at the North Carolina Intercollegiate, Saturday morning. The men's team placed sixth out of 12 teams.

Charlotte's women, who are ranked 10th in this week's Southeast Region, beat a pair of regionally-ranked schools that part of their teams to East Carolina. North Carolina, second in this week's poll, finished seventh, while Wake Forest, ranked third, placed second behind the Niners.

Cassie Ficken, this week's Conference USA performer of the week after the win at Furman, led the 49ers with a fifth-place finish. She completed the 4,900-meter course with a time of 17:30.52. Tsehaye Dagnachew was next across the line for Charlotte in ninth with a 17:40.94 time. In 28th place, Andria Craig finished at the team's third runner. She posted a time of 18:08.87. Liz Smith was 32nd with a 18:17.29 time, while Amelia Slagle capped the team's score three spots back in 35th. She had a time of 18:22.76.

On the men's side, Russell Slade was 30th overall with a time of 24:38.54 to lead the team. Jamil Muhaimin was second for the 49ers with a 24:47.00 time to place 38th. Andrew Manning, who led the team in each of the past two races, was 50th with a time of 25:01.10. Mark Weems placed fourth for Charlotte and 68th overall with a time of 25:22.87. Ken Simeone finished 86th to close out the team's score with a time of 25:38.30.

Saturday was the final tune-up before the Conference USA Championships. Both teams will travel to USF for that one, Nov. 1.
