GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Charlotte 49ers cross country teams competed in their final meet before the C-USA Championships this weekend. The men ran in the NCAA Pre-Meet Race, while the women competed in the Furman Invitational.
The men finished 33rd in the NCAA Pre-Meet Race with a score of 832 points. Stanford won the meet with a score of 56. Individually, Alabama's David Kimani won the meet with a time of 24:06.
Lorin McAllister was the top runner for the men, finishing 130th with a time of 26:39. Ed Schlichter placed second for the 49ers. His time of 26:52 was good for 148th. Josh Baker finished 175th with a 27:11 time. Ian Dickinson and Jared Kessen rounded out the Niners' score, finishing 189th and 190th, respectively. Dickinson posted a time of 27:30, while Kessen ran a 27:33.
The women were 15th in the Furman Invitational with a score of 404. Brigham Young had all five of their runners in the top 10 to win the women's race with a score of 25. BYU's Nan Evans won with a time of 21:42.
The women's team had two runners in the top 100. Cassie Ficken finished 31st to lead Charlotte with a time of 23:20. Laura Syracuse was 51st with a time of 23:44. Lisa Ottens and Claire Shepherd were third and fourth for the 49ers, finishing 161st and 162nd. Ottens had a time of 25:43 and Shepherd ran a 25:44. Jamie McClendon rounded out the team's scoring, finishing 223rd with a time of 27:53.
The 49ers' next meet is the Conference USA Championships, which will be held Oct. 27 by East Carolina in Greenville, N.C.
