Bethlehem, Pa. – With a stellar field of teams in attendance, the Charlotte 49er Cross Country teams turned in a pair of tremendous performances at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University in Eastern Pennsylvania.

Amanda Goetschius led the way for the women’s team by turning in a 23rd place finish while Adu Dentamo was the top 49er finisher with a ninth place performance.

Goetschius crossed the line with a time of 21 minutes to lead the Niners and was followed 54 seconds later by Keara Thomas who finished 75th and Stephanie Snyder crossed the line in 22 minutes to finish 86th.

Charlotte’s women’s team piled all of their finishers within two minutes of each other which was good enough for the unit to finish in the top 15, even with Aja Jackson being held from the lineup yet again, but Head Coach Brad Herbster would still like to see more from his women’s team.

“Amanda moved up through the field very well, but we still have some room for improvement, as our nearly two minute gap from Amanda (Goetschius) to Laura (McCary) is way too much and if we shrink that we’ll place much better,” said Herbster about his women’s squad.

On the men’s side, Dentamo’s ninth place performance paced the 49ers while senior Ryan Jank was the second Charlotte runner to cross the line with a time of 24:56 to finish 72nd. Jordan Rickard finished five seconds behind Jank in the 83rd spot with a time of 25:01.

“Adu ran a really good race and our top three ran very well as a whole, but we still need to really work on our back two scorers, so they can close the gap and have improved scoring for us as we approach the conference meet,” commented Herbster.

There were 46 teams that participated in today’s race with seven of those schools being Atlantic 10 rivals that the 49ers will host on the Charlotte campus course on November 1st for the A-10 Championships.

Charlotte was the second best A-10 squad, behind Richmond, on the women’s side, while the men were the fourth best conference team at the meet.

Charlotte will be back in action in two weeks when it has a busy weekend on tap by traveling to Appalachian State on Friday and then makes the long trip to Terre Haute, Indiana for the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Saturday.
