Manassas, Va. - Both the Charlotte men's and women's cross country teams finished second at the George Mason Invitational Meet held in Manassas, Va. on Saturday. The men's race was an 8K run with the 49ers finishing behind perennial power Indiana, while the women ran the 6K and were bested only by Richmond.
Tsehaye Dagnachew won the women's race with a time of 21:32.10. She was the first collegiate runner to cross the line, with teammate Jane Daniels second by a fraction of a second over the third place runner. Daniels' time was 21:59.57. Richmond placed third through fifth, with Charlotte runner Aja Jackson coming in sixth at 22:29.34. Richmond took the next two spots to claim the team title, but the Niners logged 17th and 20th to finish second.
Stephanie Snyder was the 17th place finisher with a 23:03.17 time, while Amelia Slagle came in 20th at 23:21.1 to complete the team scoring.
Non-scoring runners were Erin Macauley at 28th in at 23.49.48, Lindsay Warfield in 30th at 23:50.21, Liana Blue and Noelle Horelik ran 32nd and 33rd at 23:54.65 and 23:56.57, with Jessica Schlegel putting up a 24:11.17 for 36th place. Tricia Brown also posted a top 50 time of 24:32.65 for 46th place.
The men also finished second behind the favored Indiana squad. The Hoosiers placed all five of their scoring runners in the top 10, while the Niners posted three top-10 runners.
Adu Dentamo ran a second-best time of 25:07.01, with Ryan Jank in fifth place with a 25:09.74 time. Matt Hipps landed tenth at 25:22.01.

Alan Ford was 39th and Aaron Kauffman was 45th with times of 26:21.64 and 26:29.74 to round out the runners in the top 50.
Charlotte will race again at the Brooks Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Indiana in two weeks on October 14.
