AUBURN, Ala. - Kenneth Svendsen led the Charlotte 49ers cross country teams at the Auburn Invitational, finishing seventh in the men's race, this past weekend.
The men finished with 238 points. Alabama, ranked 21st in the nation, won the meet with a score of 74. Individually, the Crimson Tide's David Kimani placed first with a 23:48.55 time.
Svendsen helped Charlotte finish eighth as a team on the men's side with a time of 24:44.42. His time ranks seventh in the record books for an 8K race. Vince Sherry was in 14th place with a time of 25:00.53. Finishing third for the Niners was Dan Monroe in 57th. Lorin McAllister was 86th, while Josh Baker capped Charlotte's scoring in 91st. Ian Dickinson, usually one of the 49ers top runners, was ill and struggled to finish 166th.
The women were 17th with 484 points. Baylor won the 5K race with 83 points. Florida State's Victoria Gill won the race with a time of 16:18.30.
The 49ers were led by Cassie Ficken, who placed 43rd. Her time of 17:51.43 ranks 25th on the record list. Laura Syracuse was second for Charlotte with an 82nd-place finish and an 18:32.22 time. Lisa Ottens placed 117th, while Claire Sheperd finished six spots back in 123rd. Sarah Carter rounded out the Niners' scoring. She was in 199th place.
