CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers cross country teams returned to action Friday night, running in the Great American Cross Country Festival at the Ballantyne Resort in Charlotte. The men finished 19th in the university division, while the women were seventh in the open/college division.
Vince Sherry was the lead runner for the 49ers, placing 22nd. He completed the 8K course in a time of 27:11.0. Charlotte's second runner, Josh Baker, finished back some, placing 95th with a time of 28:29.1. Jared Kessen was next to cross the line. He ran a time of 28:40.4 to place 100th. Mike Ryan and Luke Pitman rounded out the team's score. Ryan was 121st and Pitman was 126th.
Laura Syracuse and Cassie Ficken led off the women's scoring effort, both placing in the top 10. Syracuse was ninth for the Niners with a time of 20:22.1. Ficken was right behind her in 10th with a time of 20:25.8. Jen Taylor was third Charlotte runner to complete the 5K course with a 20:56.7 time. Jenny Sniffen and Marenika Wisdom also competed for the 49ers, placing 71st at 85th.
Both teams return to action next Saturday, when they run at the Clemson Invitational.
