Cross Country Runs In Great America Cross Country Festival

Vince Sherry turned in the strongest performance for the 49ers, finishing 10th in the men's 8K race.

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Charlotte 49ers cross country teams returned to action Friday night, running at the Great American Cross Country Festival, hosted at Winthrop. The men's team finished 10th overall, while the women were 24th.

Vince Sherry led the 49ers with a 10th place finish in the men's race. His time of 24:40.1 ranked fifth in the Charlotte record book for an 8K race. Ian Dickinson was second for the Niners, finishing 22nd with a 25:06.1 time. Dan Monroe placed 61st with a 25:58.1 time and was followed by Josh Baker, who ran a 26:29.1 time to finish 90th. Lorin McAllister capped the 49ers' scoring with a 26:42.2 time to finish 110.

For the women, freshman Cassie Ficken paced Charlotte, placing 66th with a time of 18:38.6. Laura Syracuse was behind her with a time of 19:04.3 in 92nd place. Claire Shepherd scored third for the 49ers. Her time of 21:00.9 ranked 217. The Niners also had several members of the track team in Rock Hill. Jamila McClendon scored for Charlotte with a time of 22:55.7 and Adrienne Barnette had a time of 25:17.9.
