CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Both of Charlotte's cross country teams earned top 10 finishes at the Great American Cross Country Festival held at McAlpine Park Friday night. The men placed seventh out of 21 teams, while the women placed ninth out of 22 teams.
Ian Dickinson paced the 49er men's team, finishing 46th out of 190 competitors with a time of 25:41.7. Dan Monroe completed the 8,000-meter course in a time of 26:01.2 to finish 57th. Pat Strothmann and Ed Schlichter finished third and fourth, respectively, for Charlotte with times of 26:09.8 and 26:25.2. Mike Ryan rounded out the scoring for the men, finishing 91st with a time of 26:46.0.
Naomi Wendland was the first to finish the 5,000-meter course for the women's team, placing 33rd of 202 with a time of 18:05.9. Jen Taylor was second for the Niners with a time of 18:43.7 to finish 51st overall. Laura Syracuse finished 70th with a time of 19:01.6. Emily Wehr and Britt Ellis capped the scoring for Charlotte. Wehr finished 77th with a 19:07.9 time, while Ellis was 132nd with a time of 20:15.7.
The 49ers return to action Sept. 30 when they run at the UNC Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
