Cross Country Teams Take Third At Davidson Invitational

The men and women each had two finish in the top 10.

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Both of the Charlotte 49ers' cross country teams finished third at the Davidson Invitational, Saturday morning.

The men were third with 59 points, while the women matched their counterparts effort with 69 points. East Tennessee won the men's race with a score of 52. Furman dominated the women's race with 28 points.

Russell Slade led the way for the men, finishing second overall with a time of 26:17. Andrew Manning was the second member of the 49ers to cross the line. His time of 26:48 was good for eighth. Jamil Muhaimin was the next member to complete the 8,000-meter course, posting a time of 27:29. Ken Simone and Mark Weems rounded out the men's score, placing 18th and 24th, respectively. Simone had a time of 27:58, while Weems ran a 28:12. Verun Tahliani and Matt Yost also competed for the Niners and finished 29th and 38th.

In the women's race, Andria Craig was the first to cross the line for Charlotte for the second-straight week. She finished the 5,000-meter course in 20:06 to place sixth. Amelia Slagle crossed the line next, sneaking into the the top 10 with a 20:12 time. Klara Jarolimova finished as the 49ers' number three runner, turning in a time of 20:20 to place 13th. Liz Smith placed 18th with a 20:47 time, while Marenika Wisdom closed out the scoring effort in 32nd with a time of 21:25.

The 49ers will take next weekend off before heading to Raleigh, N.C. for the Great American Cross Country Festival. The meet is scheduled for Sept. 26.
