Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers men's and women's cross country teams each finished third at the Wake Forest Invitational on Saturday. North Carolina and Wake Forest finished one-two in both the men's and women's races, which were held on the Wake Forest cross country trails.
On the men's side, senior Ed Schlichter was the top finisher for Charlotte, finishing the 5,000-meter course seventh overall in a time of 15:26. The 49ers placed six runners in the race's top-25, including freshman Nick Sunseri (13th), Russell Slade (15th), Jamil Muhaimin (16th), Ryan Jank (23rd) and Ken Simeone (24th). The squad scored 69 points, besting East Carolina and North Carolina A&T.
In the women's 5,000-meter event, Charlotte was led by Tsehaye Dagnachew and Jane Daniels. Dagnachew earned 10th overall, finishing in 18:06, while Daniels followed four seconds behind hear teammate to take 11th. Other notable 49er performances were turned in by Liz Smith, who finished 22nd, Andria Craig (25th), and Amelia Slagle (28th). The women's team totaled 86 points to beat out Davidson and East Carolina.
The teams are next in action September 25, when they will tackle the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
