Spartanburg, S.C. - The men's and women's cross country teams continued their regional dominance Saturday morning, sweeping the titles at the Eye Opener at Milliken Research Park in Spartanburg, S.C. Freshman Dakota Lowery and junior Aja Jackson claimed the top individual finishes for the men's and women's Division I races, respectively.
Charlotte finished first out the five Division I teams on both the men's 8K course and women's 5K course. In the men's run, Charlotte notched its second consecutive perfect team score with 15, outpacing Furman (48), Wofford (88), Presbyterian (105) and host USC Upstate (125). In the women's run, the 49ers also dominated with a team score of 20, overpowering Furman (41), Wofford (102), Presbyterian (106) and USC Upstate (123).
On the men's side, Lowery took the top spot for Division I runners, clocking in at 25:58. Rounding out the top five were sophomore Chase Eckard (26:04), sophomore Alan Ford (26:07), sophomore Jordan Rickard (26:10) and senior Matt Hipps (26:11).
On the women's side, Jackson, who was named Atlantic 10 Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week for her first-place finish at the Gamecock Invitational last week, took top Division I honors with a time of 18:09. Freshmen Amanda Goetschius (18:15), A-10 Rookie of the Week, and Keara Thomas (18:22) took the second and third positions, respectively, for the second week in a row. Freshman Laura McCary (4th, 18:35) and junior Liana Blue (10th, 19:13) completed scoring for the 49ers.
