CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers cross country teams began the 2001 season by claiming two of three victories in the Charlotte Relay Invitational at McAlpine Park, Saturday. The top three relay pairs for each participating school figured in the scoring.

The men's team defeated Campbell, 8-13 and Wofford 6-15 but fell to North Carolina, 9-12. The 49ers top relay team of Ian Dickinson and Dan Monroe caprtured first-place over the 10-mile course with a time of 49.59.89. North Carolina claimed the next three spots to post victories over Charlotte, Campbell and Wofford.

On the women's side, the 49ers again won two of three contests, falling to North Carolina, 6-15 and defeating Campbell, 8-13 and Wofford, 6-15. North Carolina swept the top three spots in the women's race to post perfect 6-15 victories over Charlotte and Campbell.
